I'm 56 years old and started watching the CATS with my dad (Purple Heart winner from IWO JIMA) on an old B/W tv with aluminum foil strips hanging off the "rabbit ears" to supposedly help the reception.  We lived in Paris, KY and Cotton Nash was the star player then (that was before polyester - lol).  I'm a Baptist minister now with twin sons who attend UL.  I'm a UL "supporter" and a UK "fan".  The difference is that a "fan" is deeply wounded when their team loses, but a "supporter" is not really affected by a loss.  I mostly view what you guys say with a lot of interest, but have posted a minimal number of times.  Glad to be here!

Became a UK b-ball fan during the days of Issel and Pratt.  Remember watching the Adolph Rupp show on WLEX.

Attended my first game in Memorial Coliseum.

My favorite team is the '75 Cats...still haven't gotten over that UCLA loss.

Originally from western KY, lived in Lexington for 26 years.

Fantasy starting five:  Dan Issel, Jamal Mashburn, Kevin Grevey, Kyle Macy, Rex Chapman.

My Dad's name was South, he wanted to name me HARRY when i was born. That was 63 years ago, my Mom finally named me Larry thank God. (Larry sounds so damn common, i always wished it was Lawrence, you know....uppity sorta) but still better than HARRY.

Raised in Harlan County, grew up a Wildcat fan as a youngun. My brother fell in his girlfriends outside toilet  when we were in Jr High. (went in waist deep) Pushing everybody's outside toilrts over was our yearly Halloween prank. My Daughter & son-in-law named my second grandson Harrison, they call him HARRY....Damn. I still look forward to my "Friday Nite Meltdown" at my favorite waterhole, few brewskis, little dancing, sing some Karoake, chase a few hairy legged women........gettin cracked up side the head by my wife......damn. I think i've bought nearly every regular in that little hole-in-the-wall a Kentucky Wildcat t-shirt & converted most into Wildcat fans. hehe   Been living here in the Indy area since graduation from old Evarts High. Couple years ago, i got half drunk & nearly drowned in my swimming pool......... it upset me so bad i tore it down the next day.  Had a vasectomy after my two children were born. Well, sorry to say, years later, it didn't work out & was divorced.  My second marriage, my wife wanted a baby, She insisted that I HAve A REVERSAL DONE!! I said NAW, NAW hell NAW, i ain't going thru that again. My nortons swoll up the size of footballs after the operation. Thank the Lord it didn't take, well at least we didn't have any children. that marriage didn't work out either. My third marriage, my wife DIDN'T want children (gettin older by this time) so she insisted that i have ANOTHER VASECTOMY!!!!!!!  I said Naw, Naw hell Naw, i ain't going thru that again. Well, anyway the Doc was giving the usual exam in preparation for the operation & saw all of the scars & exclaimed "Damn son, your nortons look like a roadmap"heh heh, true story.

I still work hard, still play hard, been a WILDCAT fan for 58 years ( i was 5 when i first listening to Claude Sullivan call the play-by-play. I'm a self proclaimed fooler,  fighter a wildhorse rider & a damn good windmill man.

Life is what you make it, just don't let it get boring, it may lull you to sleep.

Ok Mark.  I will bite and admit I am a lurker.  My name is Paula and I live in Mayfield, KY.  I guarantee you there is not a guy out there more obssessed than I am about UK basketball.  My screen name is mrsgillispie because if Billy ever wants to marry someone that can match his passion for basketball, I am his woman.

I go to all of the home games with my sister and we are trying to make at least a few away games every year.  We also go to the SEC tournament and follow them in the NCAA tournament.  I TIVO all of the games I go to so I can watch them again when I get home.  I also TIVO sportscenter and espn news after our games so I can catch every word said about my beloved CATS.

I love reading your posts and appreciate the information you bring.  I have to admit that I am also a little jealous of you and fantasize about what it would be like to be able to travel around and just talk basketball.

I check several sites daily and am so happy I found this one. I hope you don't mind us stalkers hanging around.

I would love to have a get together at one of the home games.  I love being around UK BASKETBALL addicts.

wildcatwelder here. As my username implies, I am/was a welder. I retired from working for others due to a severe injury about 8 years ago. I now have my own small welding shop I operate night and weekends. I have a "white collar" day job, which I can't disclose.

I'm 44, married with 2 kids, one is 20 and the other is 2, {thought I would start over again, lol}. I've been a huge Ky. fan since I can remember. I love to fish, mainly bass, hunt and target shoot. Life member of the N.R.A.

Right now I'm just waiting for the season to start!! Go big blue!!

Hello--I'm RenĂ©e from Owensboro and have been a UK fan since the 70's--(my personal theory is that Joe B was able to win so many games in 78 was by having Mike Phillips fall on our opponent's star player).  I used to babysit for Randy Embry's kids, knowing him only as the baseball coach of my high school team...wasn't well versed in my UK history back then!

Longtime lurker on several message boards and sites, starting with the AOL UK bball boards in the late 90's.  I love all the personalities and discussions that boards like these generate.  I remember the classic White Castles vs Krystals battle in the offseason was fought with the ferocity of a UK vs UT game on AOL.

Matt's blog led me here--glad to have another great avenue for UK discussions--Thanks fuckface!

:uk084 fuckface, I was "forced" to become a UK fan when I was in the first grade.  We didn't have a television, so we listened to Claude Sullivan on the radio.  My dad was a huge fan and wanted a son, so badly.  Well, he got three girls and we're all big Blue NUTS.  I've lived in several states and have always had the Courier J sent to me, so that I could keep up with the CATS.  We've only had a few setbacks in the eons that I've been a fan, and I'm glad that optimism is up and that the fans are beginning to get excited again.

I attended UK during the early sixties and because one of the players and I were good friends, I knew them all.  Rupp was a hard taskmaster and they were usually looking over their shoulder, but they were good kids.

My own kids were brainwashed from birth, so they have attended games, cheered, made signs and both sat out in the snow to "get lottery" numbers for tickets, while students at UK.

We are a UK family and I'm so proud of our former players. My favorites were:

 Jamal Mashburn

Kenny Walker

Dirk Minniefield

Goose Givens

KEvin Greevy

Tony Delk

Derek Anderson

Chuck Hayes

gumpdaddy wrote: Hey guys, here's a little about myself.  I grew up in in a small town called Jackson, Missouri. We didn't have much but what we had we earned. Dad used to beat us and Mom was always there to comfort us after he'd passed out drunk. One day when I was nine, he went after my brother Jack and she shot daddy in the head with the revolver he had hidden in the cupboard. I think Mama always thought that revolver would kill one of us. I'll never forget that day, i was so scared but so relieved that he would never hurt me again.

After that, we didn't have any income for a while. I worked at old man Johnson's corner store but he only paid me $14 a week and that didn't go far. We used to go to the piggly wiggly and steal moon pies. Mama turned to prostituting herself and made good money until she lost her looks. But, it got us boys graduated from high school and then we set out to make a living for ourselves.
I thought about what I wanted to do for a living, but finally realized that I owed society some sort of payback for all those moon pies I had stolen over the years. So, I turned to law enforcement. Even though I had a high school education, they said they would overlook the fact that I was overqualified for work in the police ranks and I started on as a traffic cop.
The best part about being a young traffic cop is pulling over young, pretty ladies for speeding or running a stop sign, or whatever you could get them for. I was finally a part of the dating scene! There wasn't much to choose from in Jackson, Missouri, so I decided to move out of state and ended up in Hickman County.
I finally found the love of my life, I was all prepared to pop the question, when the worst thing happened to me. My computer crashed and I lost her email address! Well, as if that wasn't bad enough, all of the pictures that she had sent me were on that computer, I had no way to track her down.
She was a beautiful woman, red hair, blue eyes, about 5'2" and 325 pounds. A solid woman, made for bearing children. But, that's what I love about living in KY, there's one of them on every corner and in every Dairy Queen.
I'm sure it won't be long before I stumble onto another good woman.
So, I finally got myself hooked back up with Law Enforcement. I am the crossing guard at the local elementary school which gives me plenty of time to watch UK.

Great site, maybe someday we can all get together down at the Dairy Queen and talk hoops in person.

You live in Clinton?

I'm 30 years old and a MEGA UK Basketball fan (as are most of us).  I am a fortunate stay-at-home mother of three.  I've always kept up with UK bball, but I didn't REALLY watch every game until the '98 NCAA Kentucky vs. Duke game.  I've not been able to quit watching since then.   I mostly check this site for info and don't post very much.  I'm very analytical -- I like to sit back and read the comments and take everything in.   IF I feel like I know enough about the subject then I'll post my thoughts sometimes.

There are some things I plan to accomplish this year.  One, I've never been to Big Blue Madness and will TRY to get tix.  Also, I've never been to see a game in person (just on TV or radio):uk064.  That will change this season!!!!:uk061I'm really looking forward to this new era of KY basketball!!

I thought I had already introduced myself but I guess I'll do it now.  Guess you can tell by my name, its Tony.  I'm from Harlan Co.  Born and raised for the first 20 yrs then joined the Army.

I am now an Army Recruiter here in HOG country, Little Rock Arkansas.

I am a diehard fans men, I love UK and everything about it, I hate being here in LR, all you see is HOGS this and HOGS that.  One good thing, you got a KY boy for a coach.  HAHA!!!

I will do all I can to make this site enjoyable for all of you.

I have been hiding here in the boards on WI, TCP, etc....for a couple yrs, and this by far, is the best of them all, so a BIG thanks goes out the MM and the guys for bringing all this to us.  Thanks MM.

hello, I'm a 41 year old self employed carpenter.  I,ve been a UK fan as long as I can remember.  I'm just a fan not a fanatic.  Hope our new coach is as good as advertised, and the new offense is not "offensive!!".   I'm looking forward to this season more than any lately.

I'm more of a reader instead of a poster.      I think you might have refered to me as a lurker.      You guys post and I'll read unless someone really hits a nerve or something.
